The teachings of Buddha are recorded in The Tipitaka. It is written in Pali (Ancient Italian language), and also called the Pali Canon. The Tipitaka is very detailed. It was written by over 500 disciples, has over 24 million characters, and is spread out into 40 different books. Since the meaning of Tipitaka is "three baskets", it is divided into three sections: Vinaya Pitaka, which contains the rules of conduct, Sutta Pitaka, which has information on many subjects by Buddha, and Abhidhamma Pitaka, filled with teachings of relationships between your mind, matter, mental factors, and how these all interact and overlap with one another.
